Legal representation

Legal representation in Iran

When you cannot be present, or simply need a professional to deal with the system for you, an Iranian attorney can stand in your place before courts, registries and government offices.

What legal representation means in practice

Legal representation is more than appearing at a hearing. It covers the whole chain of steps that turn a legal need into an outcome: identifying the correct authority, preparing and filing applications, following them through, answering requests for further information, attending meetings and hearings, and receiving decisions on your behalf.

In Iran, as elsewhere, these steps are often procedural and time-sensitive. A missed notice or an incomplete file can cost months. Having an attorney who knows how matters move through the system, and who is authorised to act for you, keeps the process on track and puts a professional between you and the paperwork.

Where we represent clients

  • Civil and commercial courts, including hearings, submissions and follow-up of judgments
  • Registration authorities for property, companies and official documents
  • Government offices and administrative bodies dealing with permits, approvals and records
  • Negotiations and correspondence with counterparties, their lawyers and other third parties
  • Notarial and documentary steps that require a representative to attend

The precise forum depends on the matter. At the start of every engagement we explain which authorities are involved, what each step requires and where your attorney will act for you.

Acting under your authority

Representation rests on authority. Before your attorney can act, you sign a power of attorney that sets out exactly what they may do. We draft that document for you, scoped to the matter, and explain how to execute it in your country of residence. Our separate page on power of attorney in Iran covers this in more detail.

Throughout the engagement you remain in control. Significant decisions, such as accepting a settlement or starting proceedings, are always referred back to you with our recommendation and the reasons for it.

How we keep you informed

Clients who are not in Iran need more than occasional updates. We report at each meaningful milestone, translate or summarise the key documents, and give you a clear view of the next step and what it depends on. When a decision is needed, we set out the options and their consequences in plain English, so that you can decide with confidence.

Starting a representation matter

The first step is a short written outline of what you need done, the authority or court involved if you know it, and copies of the documents you hold. From this we identify the procedure, the documents still missing and the scope of authority your attorney will need.

We then confirm in writing what we will do, what we need from you and how we will report. Once the power of attorney is in place, your attorney begins acting immediately and you receive the first update as soon as the matter has been opened with the relevant authority.

Common questions

Can an attorney represent me in Iran without my being there?

In many matters, yes. Once you have signed a suitable power of attorney, your attorney can file, attend and correspond on your behalf. We tell you at the outset if any step in your matter is likely to need personal attendance.

Do you only represent clients in court?

No. Much of our representation takes place before registries, administrative bodies and counterparties rather than in court. We act wherever a representative is needed to move your matter forward.

How do I know what my attorney is doing?

You receive reports at each milestone, with summaries of key documents and a clear explanation of the next step. You can write to us at any time for an update.
