Contract disputes and litigation in Iran

When a disagreement cannot be settled informally, you need an Iranian attorney who can assess your position honestly, negotiate firmly and, if necessary, take the matter through the courts.

Assessing the dispute

Every dispute starts with an honest assessment. We review the contract or the facts, the evidence you hold, the other side's likely position and the practical question that matters most: if you succeed, can the outcome be enforced? Only then do we recommend a course of action, whether that is a negotiated settlement, a formal demand or proceedings.

The disputes we handle

  • Breach of contract and non-performance by Iranian counterparties
  • Unpaid invoices and recovery of commercial debts
  • Disputes over property, leases and title
  • Disagreements between heirs and co-owners
  • Claims involving foreign parties and cross-border contracts

Negotiation first, proceedings when needed

Most disputes are resolved more quickly and cheaply by negotiation. A well-reasoned letter from an attorney, setting out your position and the consequences of inaction, often moves a matter that has been stuck for months. When negotiation fails, we prepare and conduct proceedings before the competent court, keeping you informed of each hearing and submission.

After judgment

A judgment is only valuable if it can be turned into a result. We follow through to enforcement, taking the steps needed to recover what you are owed or to secure the outcome the court has ordered, and we tell you plainly at each stage what remains to be done.

Preparing your case

Strong cases are built on documents. Before any formal step we collect and organise the contract, correspondence, invoices, delivery records and anything else that proves what was agreed and what went wrong. Where documents are in a foreign language, we arrange for the translations the court will require.

We also look at the other side honestly: their likely arguments, their ability to pay and the assets that could be used to satisfy a judgment. That assessment shapes our recommendation and helps you decide how far to take the matter.

Disputes involving foreign parties

When one party is outside Iran, practical questions multiply: how documents are served, how evidence from abroad is presented and how a decision can be enforced. We have experience handling these questions for clients who are not in the country, and we coordinate with your advisers abroad where a dispute has elements in more than one jurisdiction. Common questions

Should I go to court straight away?

Usually not. A formal demand and negotiation resolve many disputes. We recommend proceedings when they offer the best route to a result you can actually enforce.

Can you act for me in a dispute if I am outside Iran?

Yes. Under a suitable power of attorney we can conduct the dispute on your behalf and keep you informed throughout.

How long does litigation take?

It depends on the court, the complexity of the matter and the conduct of the other side. We give you a realistic view for your specific case rather than a general estimate.
