Who we act for

We advise foreign companies that sell to, buy from or partner with Iranian businesses, as well as foreign individuals who own property, have family ties, have been named in a will or are involved in a dispute in Iran. Many of our foreign clients have never dealt with an Iranian court or registry before, and our first task is to explain clearly how the process works.

How we help foreign clients

  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts with Iranian parties before you sign
  • Recovering unpaid invoices and enforcing contractual rights
  • Representing you in disputes before Iranian courts and authorities
  • Dealing with registries and government offices on your behalf
  • Coordinating with your lawyers, accountants and advisers in your home country

Document legalisation guidance

Documents issued outside Iran, such as company certificates, board resolutions, powers of attorney and personal records, usually need to go through certification, translation and legalisation steps before Iranian authorities will accept them. The exact route depends on the country of issue and the purpose of the document.

We tell you which documents are required, the order in which steps should be taken and how to avoid having a document rejected for a formal defect. Getting this right at the start often saves weeks later.

Working across borders

We communicate in English, work with your time zone in mind and report in a format that suits you, whether that is a short email update or a full memorandum for your board. Where a matter also raises questions under other legal systems, we advise on Iranian law and work alongside your advisers elsewhere, so that the overall approach is consistent.

Before you sign with an Iranian party

Many of the problems foreign clients bring to us could have been avoided at the contract stage. Unclear payment terms, a dispute clause that is difficult to use, or obligations that do not match how business is actually done can all leave a foreign party exposed.

A review by an Iranian attorney before signature looks at these points from the perspective of enforcement in Iran: what happens if the other side does not perform, which forum would hear the dispute, and what documents you will need to prove your claim. Small changes at this stage are far less costly than litigation later.

Common questions

Do I need a local partner or representative to act in Iran?

That depends on what you want to do. For many legal steps, an attorney acting under your power of attorney is sufficient. We explain what is needed for your specific plans.

Can you review a contract before we sign with an Iranian company?

Yes. A review before signature is one of the most cost-effective ways to avoid later disputes. We look at enforceability, payment protection, dispute resolution and the practical points that matter in Iran.

Do you communicate in English?

Yes. All advice, reports and summaries of documents are provided in English.
